We are finally at the close of 2015, and WHAT a year it has been! As you know, we are all big foodies and love talking about anything food. Well in the food world, there is always endless food trends coming and going every year. It always leaves people thinking, “what will the next food trend be?” And it seems that everywhere you turn there is a new trendy diet or food, which after a while can get confusing and overwhelming. Well, let us help you make sense of all these food trends and make shopping for them easier!

When it comes to food and diet trends, people think that one size fits all, but that is not the case at all! Each person has different taste preferences and nutrient requirements. It’s important to find something that works well for you! So, can you predict what the top food trends will be for 2016? We’ve made it a little easier for you and have done some research, here’s what we are predicting:

Grab-n-go salads are predicted to be huge this year. Now these are different from your traditional pre-prepared salads or just bags of lettuce. These family-size bags come with all the toppings included in small bags that are nestled up to the greens. All you do is combine all the ingredients and you have a tasty, nutritious addition to any meal. We highly recommend the Dole Chopped Salad Kits available by the packaged lettuce leafs in the produce aisle.

Probiotics, but with a twist. By now you’ve probably heard of all the benefits from taking a probiotic supplement or eating yogurt to boost immunity in your gut. Well expect this to be a major trend this year, especially in unique forms such as of Kombucha or Keifer.

Breakfast for dinner, or brinner, is expected to be popular among families this year. And personally, I am pumped about this trend. I love doing breakfast for dinner because it is easy and a good break from my husband and I’s routine. The best part, the more creative you are with the meal, the better it is!

Ancient grains such as amaranth, quinoa, sorghum, teff, millet, etc. have been increasing in popularity and are this is expected to continue into 2016. These grains are called ancient grains because they have roughly continued to have the same composition over the past 100 years. These tend to be higher in protein, fiber, and other vital nutrients. Keep an eye on these this year!

And our final prediction for 2016 is Maca root. Ever heard of this before? This is the newest super food and is typically sold as a powder that can be added to a smoothie, drink, and so much more. Maca root has been said to help balance your mood as well as increase stamina and energy. We suggest mixing the powder with chocolate in a smoothie! You can find the powder in Living Well sections at Market Street locations.

Well these are our predictions for food trends in 2016, what do you think will be the newest food trend this year?
